With October fast approaching and the holidays lurking right around the corner, many of us will feel overwhelmed! I know that sometimes just the thought of leaving the house in the evening can seem daunting, but I also know that ounce I am on the dance floor the stress goes away and my mood brightens. Dancing is a GREAT stress reliever, so try and get out on the dance floor at least once a week, you will be glad that you did.

The next event that we will be going to is Paradise, in Pomona, Oct. 15 - 17, 2010. We will be competing and teaching a class at noon on Saturday. On Sunday we get on a plane for our Cruise!
Cruiser's, if you haven't booked your hotel room, you should do so now! Call 954-922-1600 and make your reservation under the Love to Dance Group. There are rooms available for the 16,17,26,27,and 28th.

Our table is filling fast for Jay Byam's New Year's Dance Camp, so if you are interested in dancing and ringing in the New Year with us, then let us know ASAP so that we can add another table if we need to.

If you are a beginning dancer, or someone that really wants to take their dancing to a higher level, then this site is for you! Remember,  Members have access to EVERYTHING that we do!  All dances are broken down, step by step, available to you whenever you want to practice. I know how frustrating it can be to try and remember what you learned in dance class, go home and want to practice and then find out a week later that you have practiced it all wrong! Don't let that happen to you! You can now download and view Night Club and Country Two Step to your computer and watch them full screen. West Coast Swing is coming soon!

Tuesday Night Class Videos, Wednesday Night Class Videos, The Ballroom Workshop Re-Caps, and The Borderline Re-Caps.

Hope all is well and sunny in your worlds.

Happy Dancing,

Tip Of The Week
Be Kind on the Dance Floor

Monday night at our weekly West Coast Swing club,  I was asked to dance by a gentleman that I had never seen or danced with before. He led me onto the dance floor and started to dance from an open position. He had a hold of my right hand, yanked me forward and grabbed my left arm and attempted to put them both over his head. I was very confused,  to say the least and just went back into leverage to give him a chance to  "start again". As I was in leverage, he nastily said, "You sure don't know West Coast, do you"? I was a little annoyed as he yanked me through a left side pass, and while being yanked through another one, I let  go of his hand and turned and regained his hand, without effecting him, and anchored. On that note he said "HEY! I'm the leader here"!  It did take all of  my will power to not say "Then LEAD",  and to finish the dance. Had he opened his mouth one more time, he would have found himself in the middle of the dance floor....ALONE!

Moral of the story: Be kind, keep your mouth shut and sometimes, when all of your dance partners seem to be
having the same difficulties, then maybe it is time to look in the mirror!

                              Dance Competitions
                                                                 by Michele Rasmussen

When I first started dancing I never even realized that someone like myself would ever have the opportunity or the interest in dance competitions. Of course I had seen very high level ballroom dance competitions on TV, so I knew that they existed, but I never knew how easily you could become involved in that world.

I have NEVER been a competitive person and certainly NEVER would have dreamed that I would allow anyone to watch me dance, but I have found that competing in the dance world is challenging and fulfilling on a personal level.

I am sure that there are many reasons that people compete at any sport and that everyone has there own personal reason but for me, dance is my passion and I started dancing so late in life that I feel as though I have tons of catching up to do! Competing is my way to challenge myself and to record my progress. My goal is to improve my own personal dancing every time I compete. And of course competing really forces me to practice!  I like to work hard and strive to do my own personal best.

I compete on the UCWDC circuit which is the "Country" circuit. The eight dances that are judged are the Triple Two Step, East Coast Swing, Night Club 2 Step, Cha Cha, Polka , Waltz, West Coast Swing and Country 2 Step. Anyone can attend a dance event and compete. They are held all around the world and can be found on the USWDC.org website.

Dance conventions not only offer a place to compete, they also offer dance workshops for all levels and social dancing at its best. If you have never competed or been to a dance event, I suggest you find one in your area and check it out. Try to be inspired as opposed to discouraged and realize that every single dancer out on the floor started in the exact same place. The beginning. The best dancers you see are the ones that have worked the hardest.
