Hello,
Why is it that returning from a dance event is so traumatic? Fresno
Dance Classic was another one of those events that make returning to
the real world a struggle. With awesome work shops and performances,
not to mention dancing all night long it is an event to put on your
calendar for next year!
It is not too late to sign up for the dance cruise. With our
overwhelming response we have added yet another instructor. Party guy
Jay Byam will be joining us and for those of you that have attended any
of his events, you know what I mean! You won't want to miss out on this
cruise!There will
be beginning and intermediate/advanced workshops on sea days and
dancing all night long, every night! You will be amazed at how much
your dancing will improve in just one short week! Here is a link to the
flyer with all of the information:

What Should I Bring to a Dance Convention?
If you have never attended a dance convention before, here are a
few suggestions to help make your event more enjoyable. These are just
suggestions and items that I find helpful. First and foremost
bring a smile, an open mind and a joyful attitude. There is much to see
and do and so many directions that you will be pulled, that being
adaptable will also help.
Bring
extra clothing, as you are likely to become hot and sweaty.... often!
Dancing day and night is a lot of work and frequent showers and a
change of clothing refreshes you. I also like to have a cooler in my
room. This is easier to achieve if you drive to the event, but can be
accomplished with a quick taxi ride and a disposable cooler from a
local market. Good things to have on hand are a loaf of bread, chicken
salad, potato salad, hard boiled eggs, nuts, bagels, cream cheese,
power bars, fruit and water. Of course beer, margaritas and power
drinks are optional!
Having food available and in your room not only cuts down on
the cost, but also allows you to have food available at any time. You
will find that your eating schedule depends upon you dancing schedule.
It is not uncommon to be eating a chicken salad sandwich at 3 am, just
to get up enough energy to dance a few more hours!

What to Expect at a
Dance Event
There are many opportunities that arise while attending
a
dance event, competition or cruise. One of the greatest
benefits
that you will experience is being surrounded by like minded people.
People that share your passion and desire to dance, broaden their
horizons and increase their skill level and knowledge. You are sure to
be inspired and challenged, not to mention amazed by the vast levels
and abilities of dancers from many different locations.
Most
events offer extensive workshops taught by top instructors in their
area of expertise. You must remember that each instructor will be
offering their own personal philosophy, style and technique and may
vary from instructor to instructor. It is important for you to remember
that you may not be able to use everything that you learn, but to apply
what you like and find useful and not dwell on the rest. Do not argue
with or try to correct the instructor.
There will be many classes offered in many
different dance styles so it is a good
idea to be selective in your choices so as to not overwhelm and
frustrate yourself. Your comprehension and ability to retain
information will depend upon your current skill level and ability to
process and retain extensive information. You should review the
itinerary at the beginning of the event and choose the classes that
most interest you.You will have a much more
successful time if you master a few new techniques or moves that you
can bring home with you, than if you just go home with a jumbled mind.
It is a good idea to write down what you have learn after each class,
and even do a video recap of what you have learned. Ask someone that
has taken the
class to run through it with you and try
to capture it on film or even your cell phone.
Of course there is also everyone's favorite
activity........Dancing, All night long!!! It is not uncommon to find
yourself crawling to your room at 5 or 6 am. Having the opportunity to
dance with all level of dancers is worth the price of the ticket alone.
You will be amazed at just how much your dancing skills improve in one
short weekend. You will meet many people and continue to "dance" into
them at other events.
To help
from becoming overwhelmed and frustrated, be sure to take breaks, stay
hydrated and nourished and take time out to have fun! Take
what
you have learned to the dance social dance floor and kick up your
heels. It is the repetition of what you have learned that will help you
to bring it home.
