What Size Dance Shoe?
I had quite a few questions on "What size do I buy", so I will try and answer that here. Once again, I recommend the Very Fine brand of dance shoes. They are reasonably priced, durable and have many, many styles to choose from. While I am not Cinderella, and have a difficult time finding shoes that fit, once I have found a style that I like, I tend to stick with it. Sometimes with dance shoes it really is a trial and error search to find the perfect fit, feel and style. Once you achieve your goal, to be in love with your dance shoes, your dancing will improve drastically. Great shoes-great fit- equals great dancing! While many professional dancers will tell you that your dance shoes should be ½ size smaller than your everyday shoes, be sure that they are not too small. You will want your shoes to be comfortable and snug, but not so tight that they hurt your feet. I would start with ordering your regular shoe size. For hard to fit feet look for shoes that have the capability to adjust, either with several buckles, or even shoe laces. If you are buying closed toe shoes, you will want your toes close to the end of the shoe, but not quite touching or rubbing. With open toed shoes, many dancers believe that your toes should hang over ¼ ". Many dancers actually cut off the tip of their shoes, so that they are better able to feel the floor. In social dance I would suggest that your toes actually fit inside your shoe. You do not want you foot flopping around inside your shoe as this would make it difficult to control your balance and dance posture. Dance shoes with suede bottoms should never be worn outside. They should also be brushed with a wire brush regularly to remove wax and debris. Silicone oil is great to polish patent leather to keep it from cracking. Dancing shoes are a vital part of your dance attire, and should be considered essential.
