What to Expect at a Dance Event
There are many opportunities that arise while attending a dance event, competition or cruise. One of the greatest benefits that you will experience is being surrounded by like minded people. People that share your passion and desire to dance, broaden their horizons and increase their skill level and knowledge. . . . more info
Where are My Feet and Hands?
With so much to remember as a dancer, one of the most important things to be aware of is where your feet and arms are, and where they are going. One of the first skills that you should try and master is awareness. Awareness of not only what your body is doing, but where it is going, and how it is getting there. . . . more info
Dance Floor Etiquette and Safety
Dancing is just like any other sport. It has rules and guidelines to follow to ensure that everyone has a good time, goes home with all toenails intact and no bloody noses. Some of the "Rules" are very simple, just using common sense and courtesy will help to ensure that everyone has a good time in a social dance setting. . . . more info
Become Familiar with Your Dance Partner
Social dancing is a sport whose players come in all shapes and sizes, not to mention different levels of ability, experience and technique. Even if both partners are experienced dancers, the first few phrases of a song can clearly define the success and enjoyment of that particular dance. Consideration to both leader and follower needs to be implemented in order to familiarize yourselves with each other. It is wise to start slow, with just a few basic steps and underarm turns to "test the waters", to become comfortable and familiar with each other. . . . more info
Learning Plateaus
Have you ever felt that you could not understand how to do a certain dance move even though you have practiced it over and over and over again? Do you feel like your dancing is just not improving although you're dancing all the time? Have you hit that "Plateau" or roadblock? . . . more info
Developing Dance Frame
Once you have developed a quiet, stable dance frame, that connection with your dance partner will allow you the luxury to listen to, and enjoy, the music that you are dancing to. Spaghetti Arms, or lack of Dance Frame, is a common problem for new dancers. It is one of the most important building blocks in becoming an accomplished dancer. It is also one of the most difficult skills for a new dancer to master. It is equally important for the leader and follower to both have, and maintain, a good, constant and continuous dance frame. . . . more info
Building a Strong Dance Foundation
When building a house, the foundation is one of the most important tasks that a builder has. If the foundation is not properly laid then the entire edifice will be unstable. This applies to everything that we do in life. We need a strong foundation on which to build. And so it is with dance. Learning the basics and learning them well are the most essential elements to becoming a great dancer. . . . more info
What Size Dance Shoe?
I had quite a few questions on "What size do I buy", so I will try and answer that here. Once again, I recommend the Very Fine brand of dance shoes. They are reasonably priced, durable and have many, many styles to choose from. . . . more info
